What is this world coming to?

Posted on: July 24, 2008 3:59 pm

So I was working with someone today who had her 3 (almost 4) year old with her.  The girl was generally well behaved and did not cause any problems, and she seemed pretty advanced socially for her age.  A cute kid really.

Through the course of conversation I came to learn that this 3 year old had seen 2-PG13 movies in the past week.  One with her parents and 6 year old brother and the other with only her father.  The 2 movies were The Dark Knight and Hellboy II.

Call me crazy, but to me this was extremely offensive and inappropriate.  What would make a parent think that these movies were appropriate "entertainment" for a 3 year old?  I have a 3 year old and there is no way in hellboy that she would be exposed to these movies at her age.

Why can't people let kids be kids and cease with exposing them to the adult world at such an early age?  It really made me sad for this child to think that she had such selfish parents, but it also made we extremely worried about my own child and what she will learn in the future from o ther kids whose parents have been to irresponsible to prevent their kids from exposure to the adult world.

First of all, your avatar is amazing.... One of my favorite movies.

But about the 3 year old..... obviously it's up to the parents for movies like that, but i agree with you. I have a 3 year old neice and i couldn't imagine her going to those movies... she would be scared to death of The Dark Knight. That movie made me jump a couple times. Not an acceptable movie for a 3 year old. Period

Selfishness is what comes to my mind.  Kids act out what they see.  Do you suppose the parents picked up the kids from vacation bible school and took them to a matinee of Hellboy II?
